The Penn Slammer Live Liner has the same great features as the Penn Slammer, but with the added benefit of a Live Liner drag, ideal for swimming live baits. The Penn Live Liner is the perfect reel for anglers who prefer the ease of a spinning reel, but the practicality of a conventional reel. The Penn Live Liner drag can be adjusted to control the drag tension, allowing anglers to fish various sized baits and maintain control over the bait, an essential factor when live-lining for various gamefish.

When originally developed, Penn developed the Slammer Liveliner with a manual feature that required the angler to flip the Liveliner drag lever to engage the fighting drag. This made sense as it allowed anglers to easily control their bait without engaging the fighting drag. However, angler after angler, captain after captain, inquired as to why Penn did not have an automatic liveliner feature. Penn has always prided itself on building products that served their anglers. Now Penn offers the Slammer Liveliner with an automatic feature.


The Slammer Liveliner still maintains its roots as the most durable, reliable, and quality built spinning reel on the market. Just like the Penn Slammer, the Liveliner version features full metal body and all the other things that go into making the Slammer family of spinning reels the preferred choice of top captains and professional guides.

A redesigned classic, the Penn Slammer Rod has been upgraded both cosmetically as well as functionally for improved performance and durability. Formerly, these rods featured a white, heavy-walled glass blank which was more akin to a broomstick than a fishing rod. The standard, redesigned Slammer rods feature a charcoal colored, lightweight, but powerful glass blank. Anglers will notice immediately, a more user-friendly, faster tapered blank that provides for improved leverage, fish-fighting power, as well as a much better feel.

The heavier action boat and Spinning rods feature comfortable EVA foam grips, while the lighter action Spinning Rods feature quality-graded cork for maximum angler feel and comfort on the lighter actioned rods. Two cosmetic schemes were developed; one for spinning, one for conventional. Spinning Rods feature red and gold-checked threadwork to compliment the Penn Spinfisher® and Slammer® Reel Series, while the Conventional rods feature silver and black-checked threadwork to match perfectly with the GTi and GTO Series of Penn Conventional Reels.
